[Things We Adore Sunday] Forts, Kiera, Free People and Soundcloud

1. This adorable fort Miss James from Bleubird Vintage made with her daughter, Milla Plum. No boys allowed and fondue and ice cream - can I get an invitation?

2. These Kiera Knightley photos by Ellen Von Unwerth (Vogue Italia January 2011). I hate her, kind of, sort of, but these photos are so glamorous and beautiful.

3. Everything from the new Free People catalog, the theme of it being 'Paris.' I want the clothes, the life, the surroundings... EVERYTHING

4. SoundCloud - the easiest way to embed songs in your blogs... I was doing the youtube thing for awhile, but this is so much easier. And for your Sunday pleasure, a little Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros:

[Green Thursdays] Why Eco-Labeling Isn't Good Enough

A Well-Rounded Meal, Of Course
Here is a prime example of why buying foods/clothes/basically anything marked "sustainable" or "green" or "organic" is not a sufficient way to eat sustainably.

Think before you buy. Even if that Gap t-shirt is made of "organic cotton", it's quite possible that the cotton was certified organic, but the workers still weren't paid enough to eat a well-rounded meal.

Just a thought.

[Food + Drink Wednesdays] ForageSF Seeking Interns, Foragers

Macaroons galore at the Forage Markets
This just in: The fabulous ForageSF, the group that brings you the not-so-top-secret underground farmer's markets across the Bay Area, is looking for interns and "foragers". Interns will help set up and organize all their cool events, and foragers will help to gather food for the group's monthly foraged dinners. To apply, just email rachel@foragesf.com. More info about the organization is located on their website and blog.

In other wonderful food news, their next big underground market event will take place at Public Works in San Francisco on January 15. If you haven't been to one of their underground night markets, you're missing out. Just make sure you bring lots of cash. The cake lollipops and banh mi burgers will call out to you, and you will not be able to resist.

Learn more about next week's market at the
ForageSF blog.

And there will be a full bar. Stop thinking about going and mark it in your
planners already!

[Food + Drink Wednesdays] Our Hearts Go out to Omnomicon

How adorbs is the author, Aleta?
New favorite food blog! It's snarky and sweet and totally unique.

I only wish you would post more often, girrrrlfriend!

But take, for instance, this recipe for rainbow cake: http://www.omnomicon.com/rainbowcake. It's the perfect balance of wit and creativity. And those colors basically make me want to be five years old again, so I can stuff that in my face and get it stuck in my hair. Oh, who am I kidding? I might just do it anyway.

My goal for this week is to try to convert that rainbow cake recipe into this giant cupcake pan.

That would be epic. Almost as epic as Omnomicon.

[Get Involved Tuesdays] Idealist.org

Idealist.org is probably my favorite job-hunting site out there. That's not to say it's ever gotten me a job, but what job-hunting site can really say that these days? I just like the sentiment, really.

And if you're not picky about pay (i.e. if you're willing to work for free), there are lots of great internships and volunteer opportunities listed wherever you may be. I got a volunteer-stint at a library once through there and there's basically something for everyone.

[Music Monday] Top 20 New Bands of 2010

Warpaint (via Spielster.com)
Loving this post on Paste Magazine's blog. These bands are going to get me through the day!

Warpaint is one of my faves of 2010. Listen to their song "Undertow".

[Travel Saturdays] Looking Forward to Tomorrow in Santa Cruz

Photo by Eros Hoagland for The New York Times
In anticipation of our meet-up in Santa Cruz tomorrow, I'm sharing the NY Times' travel page for the city. The NY Times is one of my favorite places to look before I take a weekend trip somewhere. Yay for us being reunited after not seeing each other for a year and a half (can you believe that, Amber!?! Let's never do that again.).

New Year's Resolutions for This Little Blog

Our little blog is just now getting started at the end of 2010, so instead of looking back over the last year, we're looking forward to the new one. In 2011, this blog will officially launch (once we finally get enough time to do everything that needs to be done with it!) and we'll be bringing you better content, better ideas, and a prettier package. Who doesn't love that?

Here are our hopes for the coming 12 months. May your 2011 be as hopeful and vibrant as ours!

1. Skype once a week to finalize content decisions and keep all of our information up to date. Amber's in London and I'm here in San Francisco, and this is no easy feat, people!

2. Bring you more of our photos. Everyone needs pretty pictures.

3. Give you more news pieces.

4. A BIG move. Amber and I are planning to move into the cutest, most bestest apartment in San Francisco this year as soon as she's done living it up in Londontown.

5. Daily content and then some. We'll have our regular daily features as well as at least one extra piece. Yayyy!

6. Make this blog easier to navigate through categories and tags.

Carrie's New Years Resolutions

SNOOOOKI
I don't usually do New Year's Resolutions anymore. I do birthday resolutions in October, but I always seem to fail with my own personal NYR's.

This year, though, I feel like I can't fit all I want to do into 23 things, so I have some additions to my original list, which is also re-posted below from my personal blog.

1. Run a half or full marathon
2. Visit Rebecca in France (this includes a stop in London to see Amber and the Tate and a stop in Berlin to go to a rave)
3. See Portland, Oregon
4. Go to Austin, Texas
5. Launch my blog with Amber (this is underway!)
6. Publish one issue of zine with Marie
7. Read 5+ female authors
8. Read 5+ canonical books from the 1920s
9. Read 6 books by writers from the American South
10. Skydive (August 24)
11. Make a signature trail/hiking bar
12. Learn to BBQ
13. Go to a rave
 (
see goal 2)
14. Take the GRE
15. Join Toastmasters
16. Take 1+ French class, preferably before going to France
17. Choose 4-5 grad programs
18. Find a favorite California wine
19. Visit a farm
20. Have a garage sale next summer
21. Start tutoring or teaching people how to read
22. Buy a new computer
23. Take up kickboxing (or another group sport)

So my additions are:
1. Be a better sister and daughter and friend.
2. Open my heart again. It's been closed too long, and I need to stop being so judgmental in my relationships.
3. Prioritize this blogging effort so it will be the best that it can possibly be!
4. Don't be like Snooki. Ever. Unless there's house music playing.
5. Bake more for all the people I love.

Happy New Year!
