[News] Back-to-Farm Movement Stunted by Price of Land

Alemany Farms in San Francisco via sf.streetsblog
Here's an interesting article from Palo Alto Daily News about the unattainable price of farmland in California. I've been pushing my parents for years to open a goat farm and make cheese (their idea, not mine, seriously), but my dad has always said that the price of land here would make it virtually impossible to turn a profit on such a venture.

It's sad news for those hoping to join tthe major return of the back-to-farm movement and sustainable farming.

Personally, I think there should be tax deductions and other financial incentives to landowners who intend to use their space for sustainable purposes, but the California budget probably can't stretch to meet that need. It's the sad but true reality of one of the most "progressive" states in America. If we don't get our priorities straight and look toward the future, there might not be such bright, sunny days ahead for the Golden State.
